Mt. Zion UMC Historic Marker Dedication

Thursday, September 27, 2018

Join the congregation of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Woodstock as they celebrate the instillation of a Virginia Highway Marker dedicated to the history of their church at 4:00PM on Thursday, September 27th. A historically black congregation founded in 1867, Mt. Zion Methodist Church's history reflects the broader story of the local African American community and their role in the history of Woodstock and Shenandoah County. This marker will place that story on permanent display in the community. This event will feature remarks by the church, historians, and local local officials, special music, and the unveiling of the marker followed by an open house at the church where light refreshments will be served. The event is hosted by Mt. Zion Methodist Church, the Town of Woodstock, and the Shenandoah County Library. All are invited.
